Firsts
Foreword
Ok. So the first thing you must know is that The Cool Edit is – for cool people, sure – but mostly an ironic name for journal entries about things that bring me joy and inspiration. That is, anything I find cool. It’s not a self-imposed label of coolness on me. I’ll let you be the judge of that. Not that I care… too much…
So who am I? I’m a Nordic transplant living on the US East Coast (generally accepted euphemism for Boston) and currently a student at Harvard Business School. I get excited about original thought, creativity, kindness and beauty, and won’t pretend that I’m not here to indulge in life’s finer pleasures. Expect musings on interesting ideas, people, and whatever else catches my curiosity!
The First Edit
To celebrate the first post, let me write about first times. Fear not, not that first time. That would set a completely wrong tone for this outlet; I’m a professional woman, as you guessed.
It’s Sunday noon and I’m riding a bus from NYC to Boston for the first time. That’s because yesterday’s denim, jewellery and 00’s vintage shopping left a burning hole in my wallet and I wanted to save some dimes. It’s not too bad – I got a seatmate from Harvard Law School and she’s cool. In fact, it’s way better than the train ride I shared on Friday with a loud snorer and a loud investment banker picking up calls throughout the trip.
This week has also marked the first time I’ve committed to an omelette diet for a full week. Just for breakfast, ok! Also the first time I saw the new apartment of my best friend and gracious NYC host in the Lower East Side. Her first time trying Trader Joe’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups (here’s a free business idea: someone start exporting those to Europe). And our first time trying Corner Bar, where Coco and Erin treated us to an decadent meal and generous drinks. Generous at least by the standards of dry January, that we, off the record, are not doing.
Uhm, in case that didn’t sound cool, here’s a hot-or-not summary of what I just said. Be inspired!!!
Hot:
Still here denim
00’s Roberto Cavalli, Jean-Paul Gaultier, John Galliano… e.g., here
Omelettes and dark choc peanut butter cups
Not:
Investment bankers talking non-stop on phone. Or just generally
Dry January (I’m a proponent of moderation throughout the year)
